13:50 Newcastle – Marchogion
He has progressed well over the winter. It took him a while to break his maiden, but he did it well at Southwell. It was a much better race last time at Linfield, and I was pleased with the way he finished the contest.
A competitive race like this will suit him, as there should be plenty of pace in there. He remains off a workable mark, so we should be in the mix.
15:00 Newcastle – Cracking Gold
He was a winner last time out at Southwell in his first start since having wind surgery. Clive Cox is in good form at the moment, so that’s a positive towards his chances. He was a nice horse last season, and after picking up that victory, we may see him take another step forward.
15:35 Newcastle – Coachello
He is a course and distance winner so a return to Newcastle may see him bounce back. It wasn’t a bad run last time at Doncaster on his return to turf. His record on the all-weather is much stronger, and in a race with lots of speed, he should be finishing strongly, and hopefully into the places.
16:07 Newcastle – Paradias
I rode him over 1m3f in the Rosebery at Kempton, and we were a little unlucky in running, but he didn’t quite hit the line strongly. I think 1m2f at Newcastle will suit him nicely. He looks like a horse who can improve, and this contest has always been the plan for him.
16:42 Newcastle – Roaring Legend
He has taken a step forward with every run this year. I still feel like I haven’t got to the bottom of him. He is an exciting horse, but we are taking on two runners here in Wonder Legend and Duke Of Oxford who have also been putting together a strong sequence of victories, so this will be his toughest test yet. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for him as this would be a big race to win.
