Coral Racing Ambassador, Jim Crowley, previews his 5 rides at Beverley on Saturday, including Ziggy's Phoenix in the 15:25.
13:40 Beverley – El Burhan
A big day at Sandown with the Coral-Eclipse, of which more later, but I’m heading to Beverley, predominantly to ride this fellow in the opener. El Burhan is a really nice horse, who won well for me at Yarmouth last time. He did have an entry in the Chesham at Royal Ascot, but we’ve chosen to just stay at this level for now, which I think could turn out for the best.
He's given me a lovely feel both times I’ve ridden him, he gets this seven furlongs trip well, and will get further next year for sure, and I’d be hopeful that even giving weight away all round here, he’s got a great chance of getting the day off to a winning start.
14:15 Beverley – Rajeteriat
I’ve not ridden Rajeteriat before, but he’s run three nice races so far, the best of them a good second at Sandown last time. We’re drawn well in stall one here, and if he can maintain his consistency, he would have a good chance of getting his head in front.
14:50 Beverley – Bint Alfella
This filly has some back form of interest, but needs to step up on what she’s shown so far this season. She has had a wind up and wears blinkers for the first time here and if they help our improve that can only be a positive to her chances.
15:25 Beverley – Ziggy’s Phoenix
This horse ran a very nice race to finish second at Sandown last time and Richard Hannon wouldn't be one to send one to Beverly if he didn't think he had found a good opportunity. She’s drawn well in four, has won over a mile, and should go very well.
16:00 Beverley – God Of Fire
This is another who ran well to finish second on his last run, his first run for the Kublers, whose horses are running well. This doesn’t look the strongest heat, and off a mark of 72 he should be competitive.
Coral-Eclipse Preview
The absence of White Birch is a real shame, as he would have been a really interesting and classy opponent for the hot favourite City Of Troy to take on, so whilst there are seven lining up against him here, one of those is his pacemaker, and the rest, on bare ratings at least, have plenty to find with the Derby winner.
He proved at Epsom that he stays really well, but he also showed plenty of pace as a 2 year old, so the drop back to 10 furlongs shouldn't be a problem, particularly with the stiff uphill finish at Sandown that will suit his stamina. I think Ryan Moore will ride him as the best horse in the race, he will have plenty of confidence in him, and I would be surprised if he didn't win the race really well, he looks a cut above these.
