12:00 Chepstow – Diamond Days
We always like to support the Coral Welsh Grand National card, and having a runner for the Coral Racing Club on this card is an added bonus. As members of the club know, the equine physio found Diamond Days had a trapped nerve in his neck, and that may have caused him to run the way he did at Fontwell, when he just never went around the bends at racing pace.
It's been treated, but as we don’t know for sure that’s what happened, we were always keen to run him at a more galloping track for his next run anyway, rather than a tight, turning track like Fontwell, and we’ll get him covered up on the inside for the first bend here, just to stop him running wide. As we didn’t learn anything about him at Fontwell, this is like his hurdles debut in a way, so we’re looking forward to seeing how he goes.
14:50 Chepstow – No Hubs No Hoobs
The Coral Welsh National is a race we’ve done well in, winning with Native River and Elegant Escape, and I’m pleased that No Hubs No Hoobs has got into the race this year, as it’s been the plan for a while. We missed a couple of intended prep runs with him because of the weather, so we took him away for a gallop last week, just to blow the cobwebs away.
He gets in here off a lovely looking weight, he’s won over this marathon trip, and he’ll go on the ground, so it’s a case of whether he’s good enough against some of the higher rated horses, but I certainly think he’s well worth his place in the field, and I'm very much looking forward to this, having runners in these big races is what we’re always aiming form.
