Kieran O'Neill Friday Blog | All-Weather Finals Day
I am a big fan of All Weather Finals Day on Good Friday. You only have to look at the quality and depth of horses on the card at Newcastle to see what a success it has been.
It goes to show, that if you put up the prize money, all the leading yards will support it.
14:25 Newcastle – Delicacy
She has been running in a much lower grade to this but sometimes when horses go up in grade and have less weight on their backs, they produce a better performance. She will be up against it here, but if she shows something close to her best form, we could run into the placings. You can’t blame the owners for having a go at this race because the prize money is there. On paper, Cloud Cover looks to be the one we all must beat.
15:35 Newcastle – The Caltonian
I rode him to victory three stars ago at Newcastle. He is the sort of horse who needs the race to be run his way. In a contest like this, there should be a strong pace, and that will give him something to aim at. I know he is a big price in the betting, but I think he could be in the mix at the finish. He likes this track, and he has a big one in him.
16:07 Newcastle – Dream Harder
He has been running consistently well all winter without getting his nose in front. The ratings suggest he will need to take a big foot forward, but he will be getting weight off all his rivals here. We have been drawn in stall 14, which is not an issue, as it forces you to make your mind up out of the stalls. I will be aiming to get into a nice position and then you just never know.
