'I’m sure we’ll reap the benefits in the future' – Aspire To Glory set for short break
As well as entering Aspire To Glory at Southwell on Sunday, we were also considering giving him the option of going to Leicester next Wednesday.
Having given it all some more thought, I’ve decided to pass on either race, and instead have decided to give him a bit more time, as I do believe that can only aid his physical development.
I think his physical weakness is what's causing him to not be as strong as expected in a finish. He just keeps steadily growing and is consistently lying down in his stable, which is a sign of said weakness.
It’s nothing at all to cause any concern, it really is very normal, all horses develop at different rates and this is his way of telling us he needs a bit of time.
Giving him this extra developmental time can only be helpful to him as far as his future is concerned. I don’t think he’s finished growing, and as I’ve said before, he’s worked well with winning stablemates at home so there has to be a valid reason why he’s not translated that to the racecourse. We’re doing the right thing for the horse now, and this way I’m sure we’ll reap the benefits in the future.
