Race Replays: Watch two of Conservative's early career runs, including a win at Southwell
Following a gelding operation and a 168-day break after his first two runs for Martyn Meade, Conservative headed to Southwell where he faced nine rivals in a Class 5 Novice Stakes contest over a mile. He was sent of evens favourite that day under David Probert ahead of the Charlie Appleby-trained Kathak, and he certainly put in a performance you'd expect of a horse that headed the betting.
A month later, Conservative was pitched into his first handicap off a mark of 78 at Wolverhampton under jockey Callum Shepherd. Again, he was sent off favourite that day, and Callum wasted no time in getting him in a prominent position after leaving the gates. His main rivals that day was Washraa from the Owen Burrows yard and Maritime Rules for Richard Hannon.
