We just eased off Hey Day Baby during the recent cold spell, although she’s settled in well here, horses – like humans – are more prone to pick up minor issues, coughs and colds if you like when it’s very cold, and we didn’t want to push her too hard and risk setting her back.

Hopefully we’re through the worst of the weather now, she’s back cantering as normal, and all being well, if we have a clear fortnight or so, we can look to start her off in a Bumper sometime from mid-February.

It’s normal for us to run young horses in Bumpers first time up, they are a good way of giving the horse the experience of the racecourse without the added involvement of hurdles.
