Joe Tizzard Saturday Preview: This has been the plan for some time
13:00 Hereford – Shirocco’s Dream
This series final has been the plan for this mare for some time, and we actually got her qualified for this final back in May, with a second at Ffos Las. She had a prep run here at Hereford last month, and ended up winning in good style. She loves good ground, so we’re lucky that this is one of the few tracks that still has it!
This is a £35,000 race, so as you’d expect it’s attracted a competitive field, but it’s so far so good as far as our plan to target the race has gone, so let’s hope she can finish the job. I gave Brendan Powell the choice of coming here or going to Cheltenham, and he just felt this mare and Bertie Wooster both had live chances so opted for Hereford.
14:48 Hereford – Bertie Wooster
This horse also had his most recent run at this track, when he was a bit unlucky to just get touched off, and he’s been put up six pounds for that second place finish, which seems a bit harsh.
We’re stepping him up in trip again here, and I think three miles plus will suit him, he ran as if it would last time, and again, good ground is perfect, so with eight runners, I’d hope he has a decent each-way chance.
15:35 Cheltenham – Ilovethenightlife
I was disappointed with her run last time, no two ways about it, she was a Grade 2 winner in the spring, and I expected more from her at Wincanton. I’ve got plenty of work into her at home since then, as she may have just needed that run, and while she gets weight from a few of these here, we are on a bit of a recovery mission.
With Brendan [Powell] at Hereford, Harry Cobden takes the ride, he rides plenty for us and we’re always happy to have him.
