Exciting news from Highfield Stables as Phoenix Of Dreams gets given his long-awaited debut target
Phoenix Of Dreams has really pleased us since we stepped his work up in the last week or so, and I’d say we are getting very close to finally seeing him make his racecourse debut.
He had been cantering away for a little while, but he did his first proper gallop last week and really impressed us. He actually surprised us a little with how much pace he showed, so he’ll do another piece of fast work this week, then I’d say we’ll be very close to making an entry for him.
There’s a race at Thirsk on 20th April over seven furlongs, and I’d say that’s the right trip to start him off over, and Thirsk is a nice fair track to start a horse at, so all being well, I think we’ll aim for that.
He was a big frame of a horse last year, but he really seems to have strengthened up lately, so although it was disappointing that we couldn’t get a run into him at two, I think he’ll definitely benefit from that extra time to grow and mature.
We’ll keep everybody updated if plans change, but hopefully we can head to Thirsk with him in a few weeks’ time, and I’m really looking forward to meeting plenty of Coral Racing Club members there on the day.
