Rockstar Icon to take break until spring following handicap reveal – latest from Oliver Cole
We mentioned in our last update on Rockstar Icon that we would wait and see what handicap mark he was allocated before we made a final decision on future plans for the horse.
I can now confirm that we will give him a break until the turf flat season kicks-off in the spring.
The handicapper has given him a mark of 80 following his victory at Lingfield, and we think that is fair enough, particularly when his excellent second at Haydock from last summer is taken into account also.
We did take a look at the French racing calendar to see if there were any suitable opportunities for him there, but having discussed it with the Coral team, we’re all happy to wait for the spring.
We’ll keep you updated of his progress over the next couple of months, he won’t do much for the rest of January, and then in February we’ll gradually step up his work, but as we’ve said before, he’s generally a very sound horse, he eats well and takes his work well, so we can’t ask for much more.
When we get going again with him I’m sure we have some exciting days to look forward to.
