Rockstar Icon: Latest effort at Wolverhampton, Hollie Doyle interview and an update from Oliver Cole

28 Oct 2025
Rockstar Icon stepped back up in trip on Monday evening as he featured in Division I of the Class 6 Handicap over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton.

Drawn relatively wide in stall seven, it was clear from the get-go that Rockstar Icon would have to use some early energy to position himself favourably on the short run to the first bend. Hollie Doyle did just that and got him into a prominent spot on the outside of three horses that made their way to the front of the field straight out of the gates.

He seemed to be travelling well throughout the first half of the race, remaining in his leading position, but as they entered the final three furlongs, Doyle had to rouse him along in order to keep in touch. Despite Hollie's efforts, as the field rounded the final bend, Rockstar Icon was unable to keep up with the pace and began to drop through the field with many finishing with a flurry from the rear.

As they hit the finishing line, it was the Jack Jones-trained Vizzavona Lady who landed spoils, with our pair coming home in 7th place (11 ran), beaten by five and a quarter lengths.

This morning, trainer Oliver Cole reported back to us that Rockstar Icon came out of the race in good health, but he did also mention that Hollie said she could hear a slight noise from his breathing during the race. Oliver will no doubt get that checked out, but we know this isn't unusual for Rockstar Icon as he's had previous respiratory issues due to essentially having the horse equivalent of hay fever, which has ended up impacting him beyond the summer months.

Following today's latest handicap rating updates, Rockstar Icon's mark has remained unchanged, so 0-60 contests are likely to be the targets going forward. Keep an eye on the Coral Racing Club in the coming weeks to find out what's going to be next for Rockstar Icon.
