Diamond Days to head straight over hurdles following his bumper debut at Wincanton
Sadly, however, it wasn't a day to remember in terms of the result, as our four-year-old son of Diamond Day come home safely held in eighth place.
After joining the Club in April of this year, he's spent the summer at Venn Farm with the Joe Tizzard team maturing and strengthening ahead of the 2023/24 National Hunt Season. His preparation for the season has mainly been on the gallops and schooling area at Joe Tizzard's yard, but did also include an away day to Salisbury Racecourse, to allow him to get accustomed to the travelling process and to experience the surrounding at a racecourse.
As a result of that preparation, the short journey to Wincanton was a smooth one, with Diamond Days arriving in fine form and looking the part ahead of his debut under rules.
The start of the race however, wasn't so smooth. The field went incredibly slowly to the line before setting off, and this resulted in several of the horses running a little free in the early stages of the race, with Diamond Days one of the horses affected by Joe Tizzard's other horse, and eventual winner of the race, Tennesse Tango. After the field had gotten themselves into a rhythm, Harry Kimber positioned Diamond Days in second place behind the outsider of the field, My Cullen.
Our latest debutant remained prominent for the majority of the race, in a line of three with Tennessee Tango and Katana. As they turned for home, Diamond Days was under pressure from Harry Kimber and began to lose his position. He eventually dropped to the back of the field and was eased up towards the line as it became apparent he'd ran his race.

Chris Wald, Assistant Trainer at Venn Farm, sent us this update following the race:
"Diamond Days came out of the race absolutely fine and he trotted up sound the morning after Wincanton.
Obviously the result wasn’t great but it is a bumper and it’s an education for him, he’ll have learned a lot and we’ll get him over hurdles and that will settle him into the race better.
He's a nice horse, his work at home is good and he’s got an engine and Wincanton will have been good experience for him and he’ll come on from it."
