If he ran tomorrow, I’d be confident he would put up a good showing
I was going to take him for a racecourse gallop at Wincanton earlier this week, but for reasons outside of our control, we’re not able to do that anymore, which is a shame. That trip out would have taught him plenty, given him experience of travelling in the horsebox, for example, but in terms of his fitness though, he is ready to go. If he ran tomorrow, I’d be confident he would put up a good showing, so now we just have to keep him ticking over at home.
The plan is still to start him off in a National Hunt flat race, a bumper, as this will be a nice, relaxed introduction for him, rather than asking him to tackle hurdles first time out. He is quite a big horse, who in time may do better on a more galloping type of track – rather than a tighter, sharper one – for his debut I think we can be more versatile, and Plumpton on the 20th December could be a good starting point.
We’re all keen to see him on the track. He has great name, and I think the Coral Racing Club members have chosen well. It will be exciting to see the name West End Boy in the racecard!
